Discartemon roebeleni (von Moellendorff, 1894)
“As in so many species of Discartemon the upper surface of D. roebeleni is much striated than the lower one.” (Benthem-Jutting, 1954)
Möllendorff (1897) original descriptions on Strepxatis roebeleni – “T. aperte, umbilicata, depressa, subtiliter arcuatim costulata, tenuis, pellucid, hyaline. Anfr. 6, convexiusculi, sat lente accrescentes, superi spiram subregularem depresso-conoideam efficientes; penultimus vix, ultimus paullum distortus, basi subinflatus, glabratus, pone aperturam coarctatus. Apertura diagonalis, truncate-elliptica; peristoma sat expansum reflexiusculum, albo-labiatum, margine externo profunde sinuato, ad insertionem subito altenuato, recedente. Lamella parietalis valida triangulariter elevata, dentibus 3 lamelliformibus in margine externo et basali et nodulo in columella oppositis.”
“Diam. maj. 8.5, min. 7, alt. 5.25 millim. Forma major: diam. maj. 10, min.8, alt. 5.5 millim. Forma minor: diam. maj. 7.5, min. 6, alt. 3.75 millim.” (Möllendorff, 1897); “Measurements of shells from G. keriang, Kedah: width – 7.60-8.85 mm, Height – 3.65-4.25 mm, height of aperture – 2.7-2.9 mm.” (Benthem-Jutting, 1954)
Type locality – “Samui islands, Gulf of Siam” leg. Butler (Möllendorff, 1894)
Other locality – “Gunong Keriang near Alor Star, Kedah” Benthem-Jutting/Apr. 1939 (Benthem-Jutting, 1954)
“Geologically speaking the range of the Malay Peninsula, and they were connected with the continent before the sea transgressed the lower valleys. Therefore it may be concluded that Discartemon roebeleni is an old inhabitant of the Samui island, dating from the time the islands were connected with the mainland. This is an example of how faunal isolation took place. Although in other, similar, cases the snails of the disconnected areas may develop differently, such divergence did not occur in D. roebeleni which is still specifically identical in the Peninsula and in the Samui islands.” (Benthem-Jutting, 1954)
