Videna cantoriana (Benson, 1861)
“A single specimen was found on the little island in question by the late zealous zoologist Dr. Cantor. It is certainly distinct from H. sanis; and the peculiar sculpture, independently of other characters, affords good ground for distinguishing it from the recorded species of the same group.” (Benson, 1861)
“The apex is smooth, slightly swollen, and there are scarcely more than five whorls in specimens of 10 mm. The animal is blackish grey with a very narrow, pale dorsal stripe, quite similar to that of T. castra, but by some accident no specimen was preserved in spirit, so I cannot give any further details of its structure; It is however, certainly a Trochomorpha.” (Stoliczka, 1873)
Benson (1861) original descriptions on Helix contoriana – “H. testa mediocriter umbilicata, tenui, depressa, orbiculato-conoidea, lenticulari, oblique subarcuato-striata, subtus Iaeviore, utrinque lineis distincte incisis remotiusculis spiralibus decussata, fuscocornea, translucente, nitidula; spira parum elevata, depressoconoidea, apice nucleato, obtuso, rubello, sutura inipressa, submarginata; anfractibus 5½, convexiusculis, ultimo carina mediana obtusiuscula utrinque compressa munito, subtus comexo; aperture obliqua, subquadrato-lunari; peristomate tenui, acuto; umbilico infundibuliformi.”
Helix contoriana – “Diam. major 10, minor 9, axis 3½ mill.” (Benson, 1861)
Type locality – “insula Pulo Sung-Sung, prop Pulo Pinang” leg. J. E. Cantor (Benson, 1861)
Other localities – “Penang hill (at about 2000 feet elevation)” (Stolizcka, 1873)
Habitat – “The specimens were found under a log of old wood.” (Stoliczka, 1873)
